MARIA DE AUSTRIA

This portrait was the first ever "Spanish" portrait that I adored. I had first seen it in Die Mode by Max von Boehn when I spent my time in the University of Auckland's General Library rather than study chemistry. It appears she actually married into Portugese nobility rather than Spanish as I had previously thought. Further study of her life though will clarify whether this is true or not. And if there is simply a difference in fashion due to time or country.

This portrait shows her in another style of dress, but similar headgear.
Maria of Austria, 1553
