EARLY 17THC SPANISH COSTUME
After the golden years of Spanish fashion, court attire seems to have become stuck in the past. Indeed tailor's pattern books from the frst half of the 17thC show very little change from the now famous Alcega Tailor's book. It does become more exaggerated, and fashion does change however slowly it may seem in some places and times. It can help to look at portraits of this era if you bear in mind the changes that occured. Comparing in bulk as I do here can help in showing the major differences, eg larger ruff, taller hair etc.
